Executive Team


The Team behind the success of Leaf Resources, is responsible for the day to day operations of the Company and possess a wealth of valuable experience and skills between them, which will ensure a positive and progressive future for Leaf.

The Leaf Team has depth in delivering large complex projects over a variety of fields including mining, agriculture, biotechnology and manufacturing with budget ranges from $1 million up to $100 million.

They have extensive hands on leadership and management of small to large R&D based global companies and research teams including cross border and outsourcing of R&D projects.

 

Ken Richards

B.Com, MBA, FAICD
Managing Director

Ken has played an integral part in the formation of Leaf Resources Ltd. In 2007 Ken took on the role of managing director of Aquacarotene, a micro algae producer. Ken initiated the sale of the pond lease to Californian based Aurora Biofuels for $2 million. In 2010 Aquacarotene merged with Queensland based Company Farmacule BioIndustries Pty Ltd to form Leaf Energy, now Leaf Resources Ltd. Ken was appointed managing director of Leaf Resources in August 2011.

Ken has in excess of 25 years of experience as a managing director in various listed and unlisted companies across agriculture and technology sectors. His life as a public company CEO has seen him complete transactions (capital raisings, takeovers, assets sales) well in excess of $200 million. He holds an MBA and a B.Commerce from the University of Western Australia. He is also a fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Alex Baker

B.Sc, GDip.Biotech, MTM, MAICD
Chief Operating Officer

Alex is the Chief Operating Officer of Leaf Resources Limited. He is an experienced executive with over 20 years multi-sector experience in the life sciences and industrial biotechnology areas delivering technical product innovation and management. He has worked in a range of companies including listed Australian stock exchange (ASX) groups and was part of the listing team for one of Australia's largest IPO's in the biotechnology sector. He has held senior management roles with start-up ventures or companies resetting via business transformation including CEO and SVP roles. His tertiary qualifications include a Master of Technology Management, Graduate Diploma in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Science and he is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Les Edye

B.Sc.,Hons, PhD
Head of Research & Development

Les has over 30 years professional experience in research and development in Australia and in the US, with a strong interest in biomass conversions by thermochemical, biochemical, microbial and hybrid processes. He is recognised internationally and since 2007 held the position of National Task leader, International Energy Agency, Bioenergy Task 39 – Commercialising Advanced and Conventional Liquid Biofuels from Biomass. Les has a background in carbohydrate chemistry, expertise in biofuels production processes and sustainable biomass supply. He also has research interests in the conversion of lignocellulosics to fuels and chemicals, biorefining for total biomass utilisation and heterotrophic algal oil production.

Marc Sabourin

B.A.Sc, M.Eng, Ph.D, P.Eng
Vice President for Project Development & Engineering- Americas

Marc has 29 years professional experience in research & development, process engineering and project execution. He formerly held positions in process and research engineering in the pulp & paper industry, transitioned to Andritz, a globally leading supplier of industrial equipment and technology to the pulp and paper, bioproducts and other industrial sectors, where he served in several roles including manager and director of research and development and subsequently director of process development. Marc's responsibilities also included managing a pilot plant facility providing global support to the pulp and paper and bioproducts industries. He has worked in several capacities on projects across the globe from conception to start-up. His qualifications include Bachelor and Master's degrees in chemical engineering, Ph.D in science (energy reduction mechanisms in thermo-mechanical pulping) and certification as a professional engineer. In 2011 he received one of the highest awards in the Pulp and Paper Industry, the Arne Asplund Award, in recognition of outstanding achievement in the research and development of mechanical pulping field.

Helen Pennisi

B. Bus, CPA
Chief Financial Officer

Helen joined Leaf Resources Limited in March 2015, bringing over 30 years of experience in the accounting profession to her role as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary. She has extensive experience in public practice has acted as financial controller of several businesses in Brisbane, notably as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary for a publicly listed national franchisor. Helen holds a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy) from the Queensland University of Technology and a Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning). She is a CPA and Chartered Tax Advisor.
